The term quartz is thought to have evolved out of the German word, Quarz, however today, the word’s origin is untraceable. Quartz is known for being one of the most abundant rock-forming minerals. It is also a constituent of nearly every rock type. Many different varieties and colours of quartz exist, and it has therefore been defined as a group. All forms of quartz have a composition of silicon dioxide.
